Privacy Policy

Fish101 is a fish identification app. It works without an account, without ads, and without tracking. This page explains exactly what that means.

What Fish101 doesn't collect

• No name, email, phone, or any account information
• No GPS location from your device
• No photo library access beyond the photo you actively choose
• No advertising identifiers (no IDFA, no Google ad ID)
• No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK, etc.)
• No cross-app tracking
• No social media integrations

What Fish101 does collect — and why

When you take or pick a photo for identification, the photo is sent to our server, processed by the AI model, and discarded immediately. We never store your photo after the response is sent back to you.

For each request, our server briefly logs:

• A randomly-generated, anonymous device identifier (created by your phone on first launch — not tied to you, your account, or any other app)
• Your IP address (used for rate limiting; not stored long-term)
• An approximate location derived from your IP — country and region only, for example "United States, Florida". We do not use your phone's GPS.
• The species the model identified (without your photo)
• Standard request metadata (timestamp, app version, error codes)
• Basic in-app actions — for example, opening the camera or clearing your local history — so we can find bugs and decide what to improve. Tagged with the same anonymous device ID; never tied to your identity.

We use these anonymous logs to monitor service health, prevent abuse, and decide what to improve. The logs cannot be linked to your name or identity.

Where your data goes

Server-side data is hosted in the United States. We do not share, sell, or transfer data to any third party. We do not have advertising partners.

Your local history

Fish101 saves a list of your past identifications on your phone only. This list never leaves your device. Delete it anytime from within the app, or by deleting the app.

Children

Fish101 is rated 4+ on the App Store and Everyone on Google Play. Because Fish101 doesn't ask for any personal information from anyone, it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children either.

If we change this policy, the new version will be visible at this URL.
